How it works

Vortex shedding, engineered for versatility.

A bluff body sits across the flow path. As fluid passes, alternating vortices shed from either side — the von Kármán street — at a frequency directly proportional to fluid velocity. A piezoelectric sensor behind the bluff body counts each vortex, converting shedding frequency into volumetric flow.

With no moving parts and stainless steel construction, the AVFM-100 tolerates dirty, corrosive, and high-temperature service with low pressure drop. The same meter body handles liquids, gases, and steam across a 1:6 to 1:30 turndown — one instrument for boiler houses, compressed air, and process lines alike.

Application Engineering

Steam, compressed air & gas — one meter.

The AVFM-100 measures gas, liquid, and vapor/steam within one body. All facts below are from the AVFM-100 datasheet.

Steam metering

With no moving parts in the flow path and a process envelope to +330°C, vortex shedding suits saturated and superheated steam in boiler houses and distribution headers. Specify the temperature + pressure compensation option to read mass flow directly instead of uncompensated volume.

Compressed air & industrial gas

The same body measures gas across a 1:6–1:30 turndown, making the AVFM-100 practical for compressed-air mains, blower lines, and process-gas measurement where mechanical meters wear out. Piezoelectric sensing has no bearings or rotors to maintain.
